"The Way You Keep Your House" ~ Housecleaning Inspiration

“The way you keep your house,

the way you organize your time,

the care you take in your personal appearance,

the things you spend your money on,

all speak loudly about what you believe.

The beauty of thy peace shines forth in an ordered life.

A disordered life speaks loudly of disorder in the soul.”

~ Elisabeth Elliot, Let Me Be a Woman

"Let all things be done decently and in order."
~ 1 Corinthians 14:40

  1. Great post, JES. I love the scripture you quoted - and there is such blessed peace when we do things "decently and in order." I actually enjoy that I can't rest until the room I'm in has been set to right. :)
Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend.

    1. I am the same way! I can not relax until everything is in order... Part of it may be OCD ;)

      Have a lovely weekend!

  3. Good reminder to me today - my house is a total mess. Especially my own bedroom, and the computer area were I pay the bills and write. I am finding such little time since my son is not here to help with chores this year. There seems to be so much work this year.

    1. Some times are definately rougher than others... We just do our best. I call it the dog-paddling stage where I feel I am just trying to stay afloat :) Try and get some rest this weekend, sometimes that helps to get strength to tackle those projects.

  4. These simple words touched me very deeply. I work outside the home and sometimes I feel like my house is in total chaos. I can never get a project completed that would help eleminate the clutter or chaos. Very soon I will be taking off work for a few days to have a long weekend to get these things accomplished. My heart is at home but I am needed to work right now. THank you so much for the inspiration!

    1. Hi Joyful! I do hope it helped as it can be challenging to balance both worlds (I worked until our first baby came) but those days off will be a blessing to you! Have a wonderful weekend!

    2. I was thinking that those were wise words...and then I saw that Stephanie was thinking the same things that I was. So I will just say, "ditto to the above" . :-)

    1. Thank you Poppy. The paintings are by Walter Gay. He did such lovely interiors I think... I especially like the moldings, baseboards and chair-railing (architectural details) that he shares on the walls... And a happy weekend to you!

  8. Hello Jes, Loved the paintings! I think this concept is one of the things I enjoy about being home, and not working outside the home is being able to finish projects. It is so tough for women to work and keep their homes. My heart goes out to them! I love the hearing the comment "My heart is at home"
Thanks for clarifying that the last post you wrote was lotion and not soap! My Bad... :o)

  11. I love those paintings- my favorite? The mantle cluttered with books! I think that would be more my description. One day, my house will be pin-perfect - and not filled with 5 boys shoes and books and living. I have just learned that, for me, (my spiritual gift is not serving - but teaching and exhorting) - I need to let some things go in order to quit beating myself up for not being good enough - and focus the heart things that need attending to.

    1. The mantle cluttered with books is wonderful! And I don't think being pin-perfect is important either... just some semblance of order. We are all in different seasons but in each one, it is a blessing for husband and children to live in a peaceful environment (which does include a somewhat tidy home)... Thank you for taking the time to visit here and enjoy those 5 boys ;)

  12. A beautiful post. Even the pictures inspire me to get up and create some decorating magic. Fall is my favorite season and I love to decorate for it. With the wedding in December we have decided to keep the decorating minimal and I'm finding I miss it. So I have fall candles lit in almost every room. ~Pamela
