Envying the "Easy, Care-Free" Life of "Everyone Else"? {Repost}

"All things are lawful for me,
but not all things are helpful;
all things are lawful for me,
but not all things edify."
~ 1 Corinthians 10:23 NKJV

There are many moments in our Christian walk where we can feel isolated. We must pass on going to certain events that "everyone else" is attending. We are compelled to exclude ourselves from different activities, inappropriate clothing and media that "everyone else" is doing, wearing and watching. It happens when we believe (through our actions) the inspired words of the Scriptures and "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5).

However, loneliness can creep in. The crowds can be captivating. It can all look so easy, so carefree and without worries. It can be tempting to dive in and join in the "fun", to be like "everyone else" without the constant concerns… Please continue reading the rest of this article at Raising Homemaker's where we are guest posting today. This is a repost but I know that these kinds of reminders are important for me and perhaps they are for you too...

"For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things,
though you know and are established in the present truth."
~ 2 Peter 1:12

  1. Thank you for posting this. Most of the time I'm ok. But there are moments when I struggle. I'm not missing the world outside or it's ways. It's just being single and alone. My mom passed away two years ago and we were close. I was involved with a Jehovah witness church. But have left learning several things.. So in search of a Good house of God is difficult. Much love Janice

  2. Great points, JES. There was surely a time when envy tried to slip inside my door, but then I began to see things in the lives of those who lived at ease that I did not want to be any part of. How does a wife sleep in while her husband goes off to work in this trying world with no breakfast or even a word of comfort? And I'll never forget how appalled I was to hear a friend say she would never pack a lunch for her husband when he could just as easily buy it. Have mercy!
    Hope your have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks for sharing! I think the hardest area for me is the constant battle with saying no to our child when everyone else is saying YES. It can wear one down to be the "bad guy" all the time...

  3. Thank you for such a lovely & helpful post. My little girl struggles with this - especially at Halloween, or when other kids are playing destructive video games or listening to inappropriate music, and other times when "everyone" seems to be doing something fun but her. I plan to share this post with her. I appreciate your help : )

  4. This so beautiful post of yours is so good today for my soul, darling JES !

    You have to know that just last Saturday, I suddenly lost a cousin of mine, still young, with children, and not ill at all ... I'm an only daughter and I've always been so very close to my cousins, they're all brothers to me, and thanks God I've never felt alone, since I grew up with them always by my side, even if I have to say that I wanted a brother or a sister ... anyway, we're grieving for this so tragic loss, and in such moments I struggle, attempting to be strong for who's suffering more than me and I'm praying the Lord, for He gives me the strenght I need to overcome such pain ... The Lord is faithful, but there are moments in our lives during which it's hard for us to understand and accept His plans for us !

    Sending blessings to you, precious friend of mine

    Xx Dany
