Be Still This Season... {Repost}

“To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven…”
~ Ecclesiastes 3:1

After all the hard work in the previous months of sowing and reaping, it is no wonder God created winter. Like the seventh day is given as a day of rest, one may consider this snow-filled season as a sign to move indoors and give your family its much needed repose.

Sadly, it is so easy to get caught up in all the “so called deals” and marketing strategies that the media has designed to keep us out of our peaceful parlors and into the mall parking lots. There is a mad rush in the streets when there should be a cozy calm.

Your presence at home is the best blessing you can offer your family. Keep these months sacred and special by spending time inside your God given sphere. Light your scented candles, prepare your baked goods, fire up the tea kettle and grab a stack of inspiring books and board games. Meet your loved ones in the family room. Choose to really live this season out by spending your precious time at home.

Life is short. Every day a beloved soul is nearing their last breath. Slow down and show them their importance through simple family fellowship.

Our heavenly Creator does not want us running around town, fighting for parking spaces, going to debt over gifts and exhausting ourselves until we drop. The best thing you can give your Lord and your family is you and your undivided attention. Don’t allow yourself to be caught up in this overwhelming, commercially-created, chaotic, and frenzied rush for our instructions are clear.

“Be still, and know that I am God:
I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

  5. My sentiments exactly. We gave up the madness of buying and receiving gifts at Christmastime several years ago so that the true meaning of the season would be more apparent. It's working. :)
    Have a great weekend!

  6. Thank you, JES, for the reminder to be still and be grateful for just being at home! Just going to the grocery store today for food was hectic. Coming home to our place of refuge was so gratifying. Blessings to you!

  8. Such a nice post. I enjoyed reading It from the comfort of my cozy couch, lights twinkling on the tree, and soft Christmas music in the background. The kids are helping Daddy 'inspect' his uniform as tomorrow he represents the USMC at the national wreath laying ceremony at the cemetery for all those who gave their lives for our freedom. Thanks for the cozy reminder. Blessings.

  9. JES, I'm so glad you reposted this -- as continuing encouragement for those of us who read it last year, and as fresh encouragement for those reading it the first time. Over the past several weeks, I tried unsuccessfully to locate this post from the archives to ask you to repost it ... and, today, here it is! Please repost it every year as we all need so much to hear it. Many blessings to you as you minister to your family ... and to us on Strangers and Pilgrims! Nancy D.

  10. Thank you for this lovely reminder! I seem to have the desire to just stay home this season more than ever before. So good to hear the truth when the lies are all around us (even at church).
    Blessings,
    Leslie

  12. This post describes the yearning I always have, for home and family. I think that is why I crawl into the old Victorian paintings depicting families together, mom with sewing on her lap, dad reading a story to the children, the fire flickering.

Thank you for reminding us that even in 2015 we can create that same atmosphere.

  14. We closed our restaurant for good tonight. I'm going back to being a stay-at-home mom. That's something I've missed. Too much driving and filling in at work.

I look forward to the exact things you describe. I also look forward to my husband finding employment. I would appreciate your prayer. Thank you so much friend Jes.

    Sincerely,
    Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage
