“Go out more, keep cheerful as well as busy,
for you are the sunshine-maker of the family,
and if you get dismal there is no fair weather.”
Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
Dear keeper at home,
you are the sunshine-maker of the family.
You see the weather forecast of the day and you brighten it as best as you can.
Like a group of candles burning together makes a peaceful glow, so does the light that you spread in your home in all your nurturing ways.
You see a "storm" coming...
It is a troubled face... and as it walks through the door, you are the first to offer a kiss, an embrace, an ear, a shoulder and an encouraging word.
You see a "weather-beaten" man (your husband ☺️)...
You know he has had a rough, long day... you make an extra special supper. In the winter you would add another log to the fire. In the summer, you might turn down the air-conditioner one more degree to offer him refreshment from the exhausting heat.
You see your child is going through some "windy" days...
You bake something special to cheer the family... You are there waiting to listen to their story.
You manage the house so that all have clean towels, tidy rooms and tasty meals.
But most of all, you are managing the ambiance in the life of the home.
You are the sunshine-maker bringing brightness to the dark days.
"But the path of the just is as the shining light,
Happy winter…
Love, JES
P.S. Thank you to all who have encouraged and commented in my absence.
It was very touching to be remembered.

ReplyDeleteDear Jes. wonderful to have you back with your gentle homemaking.
DeleteI have been struggling with this very subject in my own life. I have become Head Chauffeur for my 89 yr old mom, 50 yr old Down's brother and my 70 yr old husband. I have to run someone somewhere 7 days a week. I am tired, but I know I need to be the sunshine for everyone to keep us all going the best we can. And, with God's strength, I will do my caretaking well. Thanks for the encouraging quotes and lovely photos. That cheerful yellow made me smile.

ReplyDeleteHello Dear Jes! I, like many have said above me in the comments, have been visiting your beautiful blog spot OFTEN this past year in search of a new post from you. I was even nigh to frantic every time I checked your Etsy shop to see it was down, as I was worried it meant that you were having to let go of your online presence. I was so excited when I saw your post come into my inbox this morning that I shouted joyfully to my homeschooled teenage daughter to come sit beside me, as "Miss Jess" is back and we should read her new post right now!
ReplyDeleteTruly, if your website was to vanish from the internet it would be as though a great candle went out in the ever darkening internet realm. We thank you for the time and effort you put forth in serving us and welcoming us into your parlor for these encouraging "chats" and showering us with generous gifts of recipes and labels and other lovely things in which to enrich our homemaking! ~Angelina from Maine
Dear Jes seeing a message from you really brightened my day and brought me smiles -- you have been so missed! Your little rays of sunshine always brighten where they land - and for the Lord's purpose. May He bless you and yours most especially during this season where His love and gift of Jesus be lost in the shuffle. Cathy in Oregon USA
